Refractory mortars and adhesives
The Rath product range includes a wide variety of refractory mortars and adhesives.Individual grades are optimised for the variety of different bricks. Recommendations regarding applications are contained in the technical data sheets.
The mortars and adhesives form a ceramic or chemical bond. The ceramically binding mortars contain fine refractory aggregates. The chemically binding mortars and adhesives also contain chemical binders selected from the following groups:
through sintering at temperatures > 800°C (ceramically binding grades),by drying for silicate-bonded grades, irreversible > 400°C for phosphate-bonded grades, or
through chemical reaction (alkali-silicates, sulphates).Selection of the correct mortar or adhesive has a significant influence on the durability of the refractory lining.
Taurus refractory materials – mortars for dense refractory bricks
Under the product name Carathin are found the mortars for dense refractory bricks. The combinations of fillers and binders have been designed to match the application temperature of the brickwork with the thermal expansion properties of the jointing material.
Taurus refractory materials – mortars and adhesives for insulating fire bricks
Taurus refractory materials  grades were specially developed for the jointing of insulating fire bricks.
Absorbency has been optimised such that the brick to be jointed can be embedded into the wall by soft pressing without leading to early stiffening or thixotropic movements.
Taurus refractory materials  is usually delivered ready for use. Only the mortars Porrathin 34 and Porrathin 34-R for high temperature insulating fire bricks are delivered in dry form.
Taurus refractory materials– adhesives for materials made of high temperature insulation wool Taurus refractory materials is used as an adhesive for high temperature insulation wool and vacuum-formed shapes. It can also be used for all other insulating materials. Properties are designed to match the requirements of especially light materials.
